Between 2005 and 2015 there were 360 fatalities in the U.S. due to canine attacks. Sixty-four percent of those attacks were pit bull attacks. Roughly 3.9 million dogs are taken into shelters each year with the number rising every year. Out of those 3.9 million, 31% of those dogs are euthanized. The most despicable form of animal cruelty is dog fighting. It is reported that there are thousands of dog fighters in the U.S. Dog fighting has made a rebound since the decline in the 1990's. One of the main motivators of dog fighting is money. More than $500,000 was seized in one raid. On an average night $20,000-$30,000 can change hands. The money is not only in the fighting but also in the breeding. Dog fighters will pay up to $10,000 for a puppy from strong pit bull stock. When the fight is over, the brutality isn't; the losing dog may get tortured or even killed by the owner. These individuals do not have compassion towards these animals as living things.
